Meet Our Team – Charles Nadenbousch
Hi Charlie!
It’s great to have you with us! Thanks for taking the time to chat over coffee — we hope the Sydney office is treating you well. We’re absolutely thrilled to have you on board.
To kick things off, could you tell us a bit about yourself and give us an insight into your current role at IAM?
I recently relocated from Melbourne to Sydney to join the outstanding team at IAM. I graduated from the University of Melbourne in 2022 with a degree in Agricultural Science, majoring in Economics, providing me with a strong analytical foundation to support my contributions in the finance sector.
I began my career in Melbourne as part of an agricultural commodities team, where over two years I gained comprehensive experience in financial analysis and reporting on international trade flows, global economic trends, and foreign exchange markets. My perspective on finance has evolved significantly, particularly through the guidance of experienced professionals at IAM. Gaining exposure to fixed income, an area less commonly explored in Australia, has been especially insightful.
In my current role, I actively engage with clients and support relationship managers, helping to deliver optimal value both to investors and the organisation.
The financial markets are constantly evolving, and we’d love to hear about your experience so far. As someone relatively new to the Fixed Income space, what are some common misconceptions you’ve encountered? Given your background, we’re keen to hear your perspective.
One of things most interesting I’ve found in Australian fixed markets is the lack of representation of bonds in Australian portfolios being in the single digit percentages, compared to the 30% representation in EU and US portfolios.
Do you have an investment mantra or guiding principles that shape your approach in this ever-changing field? And how do you stay informed and continue learning in such a dynamic environment?
The only constant in life is change… and fixed income returns.
Let’s step away from the desk for a moment and get to know the person behind the professional!
Before joining IAM, you also dabbled in the agriculture space. How did that opportunity come about, and what were the biggest takeaways from that experience?
Before joining IAM, I had the opportunity to work in the agricultural sector, which was a natural fit given my longstanding interest in the land. Rooted in frequent visits to farms across rural Victoria and New South Wales from a young age. This early exposure nurtured my curiosity about the complexities of farming, supply chains, and the broader economic forces influencing the industry.
Overall, my agricultural background has enriched my perspective in finance, equipping me with a distinctive understanding of one of Australia’s key economic sectors and enabling me to bring a grounded, analytical approach to fixed income and investment opportunities here at IAM.
As a new Sydney local, what does your 5 PM – 9 PM look like after work? Any favourite spots, hidden gems, or go-to activities you’ve discovered?
Since moving to Sydney just a month ago, my evenings have been all about finding a good balance. I love staying active, whether it’s running by the water, hitting the gym, or swimming to keep things interesting. When I’m not at work or moving furniture, you’ll probably catch me meal prepping, getting lost in a great book, binge-watching a new show, or out discovering new restaurants around the city.
